A must read for anybody interested in getting under the skin of Cold Warriors on both sides of the iron curtain is this new study on operational planning in NATO and the Warsaw Pact. Blueprints for Battle, originally published by the German Armed Forces Military History Research Institute, and translated into English by noted military historian Major-General (ret’d) David Zabecki, does exactly what it says on the tin and provides an in-depth account of the operational plans of the various military organisations of the two power blocs during the height of the Cold War.
